Integrating innovative TECHnologies along the value Chain to improve small ruminant welfARE management

New additions to TechCare: Andrea Frongia, Gabriella Serra, Liam Farell, Gili Shalit

Andrea Frongia (Researcher – AGRIS)

Agronomist recently embarked on a research career at Agris, currently in the Nutrition research sector. His academic background is rooted in Animal Science, with a particular focus on ruminants. The experience at Agris has allowed him to broaden both his theoretical understanding and practical skills working with sheep and lambs. Main research activities: study on heavy lamb production for the improvement of ovine meat productions through the crossbreeding of different breeds. Role in the Techcare project: collaborating in the activities of WP3 – Prototyping & PLF and WP5 – Pilot and large-scale farms, WP7 – Communication and dissemination.

Gabriella Serra (Researcher – AGRIS)

Agronomist, PhD in Agricultural and Forestry Systems and Food Production Sciences. Researcher at the Nutrition research sector in Agris. She works with dairy sheep and cattle breeding systems, environmental sustainability of sheep and cattle farms, LCA study and Carbon footprint estimation. Currently, her activity is oriented towards the application of the LCA method to evaluate the environmental impact in terms of Carbon footprint and protection of biodiversity in dairy sheep and dairy and beef cattle farms in Sardinia and in the Mediterranean area. Role in the Techcare project: she collaborates on the activities of WP3 – Prototyping & PLF and WP5 – Pilot and large-scale farms, WP7 – Communication and dissemination.

Liam Farrell (Chief Technical Officer – Breedr)

Chief Technical Officer, Liam brings years of experience and leads the development team.  Liam is involved in implementing the Breedr app welfare assessment module on the large-scale farms, and working with the TechCare partners involved in the large-scale activities.

Gili Shalit (PhD student – ARO)

Gili Shalit Mishal, B.Sc. Industrial Engineering, MBA in Business Administration. Drawing upon extensive experience in digital transformation, and mega-project management within the insurance sector, I’ve embarked on a new chapter learning for a PhD in Industrial Engineering. My main role in the TechCare project is to analyze data from diverse experiments, develop predictive models and machine learning algorithms focusing on identifying Early Warning Signs (EWS) for small ruminant welfare.
